Looking back:
So for this experiment I wanted to do something cool and interesting. So I went into this lab not really knowing how it was going to turn out and what I was really looking for. Timing was huge because there is a lot of waiting and knowing when its right. Making sure nothing was effecting it in the process while being melted. Over all I really liked how things turned out for me at the end for it being my first time and being solo.
Looking Beyond:
So during the melting process it would start a weird process and almost have a mind of its own inside the tin cup. The color depends on how much oxygen is exposed to it. Which is called oxidation. The less oxygen the metal captures the more gold looking and colorless it will become. More oxygen creates more blue and purple crystals. In order to allow the crystals to become a golden color I then turned the tin cup upside down and got a gold color, so we used a flame torch to get it more pink and purple. The crystallization process is very quick and you have to be really careful.
Looking Inward:
I did get the desirable results that I wished for. Not really know what you are going to get when using bismuth you just have to wish for the best and it being my first time doing this I didn't know what I was going to expect. And at the end I ended up getting really cool pieces that stood out to me. I waited and took notice on how the bismuth is put into work when the heat is creating something so cool with all the bismuth. Patience really is the key to this experiment. I think my performance during this lab was good I took my time and learned something really fun and interesting.
Looking Outward:
I decided to work alone because I just wanted my points for my section and I wanted to distance myself from others to do something myself and see what I can create and accomplish with the bismuth. Overall I'm just trying to grow in chemistry and learn something I never knew could be done and I'm the one doing it.
Looking Forward:
Probably If i had more time I would take things even slower and make sure not to be moved so I can get the best from this and see everything that can be created by me one person and show people the fun and creative thing you can do with this and just have a fun time with it because you're really surprised with what you get at the end of all this and it almost makes you want to create more to see if your results are better then before.
Take Aways:
PATIENCE is very much needed because there is so much bismuth that you will have to wait and it will test you and makes you want to be done already. Waiting is very annoying but for something like this you you have to because if you don't you'll be mad at the outcome and made at your self for not waiting.
